Teacher’s Role In Education

The effectiveness and efficiency of individual learning in school is very dependent on the teacher’s role. Abin Shamsuddin (2003) suggested that in the broad sense of education, an ideal teacher should be to act as:
1. Conservator (guardian) value system is the source of the norm of maturity;
2. Innovator (developer) value system science;
3. Transmitters (successor) systems that value to students;
4.
Transformer (translator) value systems through the incarnation in his personal and his behavior, in the process of interaction with the target learners;
5. Organizer (organizer), the creation of educative process which can be accounted for, either formally (to the parties who appoint and assign him) and morally (the target learners, and the God who created it).

Meanwhile, in the sense of limited education, Abin Shamsuddin citing thinking Gage and Berliner, said the role of teachers in the learning process the learner, which includes:

1.
Teacher as a planner (planner) who has to prepare what will be done in the learning process (pre-teaching problems).;
2. Teachers as implementers (organizer), which should be able to create situations, lead, stimulate, mobilize, and direct the teaching and learning activities according to plan, in which he acted as a resource (resource person), the wise leadership consultant in terms of democratic and humanistic ( human) during the process (During teaching problems.)
3. Teachers as assessors (evaluators) who must collect, analyze, interpret and eventually have to give consideration (judgment), above the level of success of the learning process, based on criteria established, both on aspects of the effectiveness of the process and product qualification.
Furthermore, in the context of teaching and learning process in Indonesia, Abin Shamsuddin added one more role is as a supervisor (teacher counsel), in which teachers are required to be able to identify students suspected of having difficulties in learning, performing diagnosis, prognosis, and if still within the limitsauthority, should help to solve (remedial teaching).

On the other hand, Moh.
Surya (1997) argued about the role of teachers in schools, families and communities. At school, teachers act as designers of learning, learning management, assessment of students learning outcomes, learning guides and mentors students.While in the family, teachers act as educators in the family (family educator). Meanwhile in the community, teachers act as coaches society (social developer), the inventor of the community (social innovators), and community agencies (social agent).

Furthermore, also raised about the role of teachers associated with teaching and administrative activities of education, personal self (self-oriented), and from a psychological standpoint.

In conjunction with learning activities and educational administration, teachers act as:
1.
Takers initiatives, the referrer, and educational assessment;
2. Community representatives in school, meaning that the teacher acts as a carrier of voice and interests of society in education;
3. An expert in his field, which should be taught to master the material;
4. Enforcement of discipline, that teachers must ensure that the learners carry out discipline;
5. Implementing educational administration, which is responsible for teacher education can take place better;
6. The leader of the younger generation, which means that teachers are responsible for directing the development of students as the younger generation who will become heir to the future; and
7. Interpreter to the community, ie teachers role is to deliver a range of advances in science and technology to the public.

On view in terms of self-personal (self-oriented), a teacher acting as:
1.
The social worker (social worker), namely a need to provide services to the public;
2. Students and scientists, that is a must continually learn continuously to develop mastery of their knowledge;
3. Parents, it means teachers are representatives of parents of students for every learner at school;
4. exemplary model, meaning that teachers are models of behavior that should be emulated by mpara learners; and
5. Giver of salvation for all learners. Learners are expected to feel safe in teacher education.

From the psychological point of view, the teacher acts as:
1.
Education psychology expert, meaning that the teacher is someone who understands the psychology of education and be able to practice it in carrying out their duties as educators;
2. artist in human relations (artist in human relations), which means that teachers are people who have the ability to create an atmosphere of human relationships, especially with the learners so as to achieve educational goals;
3. Forming the group (group builder), which is capable mambentuk create the group and its activities as a way to achieve educational goals;
4. Catalyc agent or innovator, the teacher is a person who is able to create a renewal for making a good thing; and
5. Mental health workers (mental hygiene worker), which means that teachers are responsible for the creation of mental health learners.

Meanwhile, Doyle was quoted as saying by Sudarwan Danim (2002) promoted two main roles of teachers in learning which create order (Establishing order) and facilitate the learning process (facilitating learning). The definition of order here cover matters related directly or indirectly with the learning process, such as: seating layout, discipline students in the classroom, interaction with fellow learners, learners interact with teachers, clock in and out for each session subjects, learning resource management, management of learning materials, procedures and systems that support the learning process, learning environment, and others.

In line with the challenges of global life, roles and responsibilities of teachers in the future will be increasingly complex, so demanding of teachers to always perform a variety of professional skills improvement and adjustment. Teachers should be more dynamic and creative in developing learning process learners. Teachers in the future no longer be the only one of the most well informed on a variety of information and knowledge is growing, growing, interacting with humans in this universe. In the future, teachers are not the only one who is more clever in the middle of learners.

If teachers do not understand the mechanism and pattern of dissemination of information so quickly, he will decline as a professional. If this happens, it will lose confidence in both of the learners, parents and the community. To face the challenges of professionalism, teachers need to be anticipatory and proactive thinking. That is, teachers must perform an update of its science and knowledge continually. In addition, teachers must understand the future of research in support of the implementation of teaching effectiveness, so that with the support of the penelitiaan teachers do not get stuck on teaching practice according to their assumptions have been effective, However in reality just turn off the creativity of learners. Similarly, with the support of cutting-edge research results that allow teachers to conduct teaching varies from year to year, adjusted to the context of development of science and technology is in progress.
